Vis-à-Vis, an organization both admired and controversial, is broadening its mission this summer. The nonprofit currently organizes trips with American Jews to the Palestinian territories so that the visitors can learn about the lives of ordinary people who live there. “Starting in July we’ll offer private tours for secular Americans to meet a new and unfamiliar population: haredim. As always we will provide interpreters and explain the different customs of an unfamiliar people in the hope of furthering mutual understanding,” announced executive director Rechev-Zar Yigrar.
“We believe that it’s important to advance the peace process on the person-to-person level, despite differences in language, religion, and customs,” noted Vis-à-Vis program director, Chanaya Pratit. She added, “We are thrilled to bring our intercultural expertise to another arena where cross-cultural incomprehension threatens peace in the Middle East.”
